The Texas Legislature meets in session every two years. The 78th Texas Legislature convened on January 14, 2003. Prefiling of bills began November 12, 2002. The deadline to file bills to be considered during regular session was March 14, 2003. The last day of the regular session was June 2, 2003. The governor will sign or veto all bills passed during the regular session by June 22, 2003. Unless otherwise specified, approved bills will become law on September 1, 2003

Update: As of April, representatives in the Texas House filed 4.532 bills; senators filed 2,461 bills. The Governor signed 1625 bills.
